Mudumalai

It is a 321 sq.Km park located in the foothills of Ooty. It is declared as wildlife sanctuary in the year 1940. This wildlife sanctuary is home for many endangered wild animals and more than 200 species of birds. Mudumalai is located close to cities like Ooty and Mysore. It is 60kms away from Ooty and 90kms away from Mysore. Animals like Tiger, Elephants, deers and leopards are found large in number. Mudumalai become tiger reserve from the year 2007. The latest tiger census shows there are atleast 80 to 100 tigers are living in the tiger reserve.

There are other places like Moyar River, The Elephant Feeding Camp, Kallatty falls; Pykara Lake and Masinagudi are the most visited attractions near Mudumalai. Mudumalai National park opens at 6.30am to 9:30am and 3pm to 6pm for the visitors. Jeep safaris and elephant safaris are also operated at the same timings. Admission fee INR 35 is collected for entry in to National Park. The safaris will be allowed up to 15kms inside the jungle. It is the most interesting activity in Mudumalai and Ooty. Private vehicles are not allowed inside the jungle.

Nature activists organize trekking and mountain climbing near the jungle area. Private night safaris are arranged by agents in nearby Masinagudi. Though this jeep safaris are safe people need to be careful while take part in this safaris. Night traffic in this area is prohibited by the government.
